In the time it takes to say ‘deforestation’, another chunk of forest the size of a football pitch is destroyed. That’s every two seconds, every single day.
But did you know that the leading cause of this deforestation is food production? And that includes the food we eat right here in the UK. Too often, it’s causing deforestation and making the climate crisis worse.
WWF believes we can all help to fix the food system for good. It has mapped out five ways to fight deforestation in our food.
If we’re going to change things, we need to understand the problem. However, it can be hard to know where deforestation might be hiding in our food. Use WWF’s tips and recipes to help you eat more sustainably and learn more about the real issues with its myth-busting guides.
If we want to fight for our forests, we also need to speak out. Send the government a clear sign that we want deforestation #OffOurPlates. Talk to your family and friends to make sure everyone knows what we stand to lose.
