Paper and board
The paper and board we buy comes in the form of packaging, such as ice cream tubs or the boxes used to transport products from our factories to our customers.
We focus on buying certified recycled material and certified virgin material. The certification schemes we rely on are the Forest Stewardship Council or the national system developed under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. Both are strong standards that align with our commitments, and we retain a full chain of custody from plantation to Unilever factory.
We also go further than many of our peers to better understand our supply chain. We trace our purchases back from packaging supplier to paper mill to understand if there is a risk that deforestation might occur in the future.
At the end of 2023, we achieved 99.1% deforestation-free in paper and board. We continue working with our suppliers to progress further in advancing certification as well as deeper traceability in our supply chain.
