Taller, Stronger, Sharper

It all began in 1873. Two brothers, James and William Horlick, set out to create a delicious, nutritious, easily digestible milk drink. The British inventors patented a malted drink – from barley malt, ground wheat and dried milk – that could be mixed with water. The result was a dehydrated complete meal for infants and those in poor health but it was also suitable for older people and travellers.

A legacy of nourishment

While it was originally developed as a nutritional supplement for infants and convalescents, it went on to be recognised for its convenient, tasty nutrition. Horlicks first arrived in South Asia with the British Army during World War I and soldiers in the British Indian Army brought it back to their families at the end of the war.

It was used to fuel brave expeditions to the North and South Poles – there’s even a mountain range named after it! Athletes consumed Horlicks at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, and it powered American and British soldiers on the frontline in World War II when Horlicks tablets were sold to boost energy levels.

Over the years, Horlicks has pioneered numerous innovations and adaptations to meet the evolving tastes and nutritional needs of consumers. New flavours have been introduced, and the product line has expanded to include specialised formulations targeting specific dietary requirements.

This iconic drink, which has been a household name for over a century, is synonymous with nourishment and wellness. Today, Horlicks stands as a beacon of nutritional goodness, cherished by generations across the globe.
