We have set a bold reduction goal to halve the greenhouse gas (GHG) impact of our products across the lifecycle by 2020. It covers our entire value chain from the sourcing of raw materials through to consumers’ use of products and their disposal.
We recognise that urgent action which tackles the whole system is required to combat climate change.
Deforestation contributes up to 15% to global greenhouse gas emissions. Just four commodities — palm oil, beef, soy, and paper and pulp — are major contributors to deforestation. Unilever is one of the world’s largest multinational consumer goods buyers of palm oil.
That’s why we’ve decided, as part of our 2013 strategic review of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, to deepen our efforts in helping to eliminate deforestation by using our scale, influence and resources to create transformational change.
We are looking across our entire value chain to understand our impacts and achieve reductions.
