GRI index
This index provides an overview of our reporting against the GRI G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. Our assessment of Unilever's Sustainable Development Report 2008 indicates that we are a B+ reporter.
The Global Reporting Initiative
The Global Reporting Initiative's G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines provide a comprehensive set of indicators covering the economic, environmental and ethical impacts of a company's performance.
These reporting principles have informed our reporting for many years. We have self-assessed ourselves as a B+ reporter according to GRI-defined application levels. Corporate Citizenship, the agency that helps us with our sustainability reporting, has provided third-party verification of this application level.
In this index we set out all the disclosures related to our company profile (1.1 – 4.17), as well as all the 'core' indicators related to economic performance, environment, labour practices, human rights, society and product responsibility. 'Additional' indicators have only been included in these six areas where Unilever’s reporting covers them either fully or partially.
For each of these elements we state whether Unilever's level of reporting covers the requirements fully (F) or partially (P). We also provide here links or signposts to where this information can be found either in our online Sustainable Development Report 2008 (SDR) or in our Annual Report and Accounts 2008 (ARA).
Where core indicators are not deemed as material to our business for this year, we have marked this as NM (not material). Where we currently do not have information in our public reporting to answer a requirement, we mark this as NA (not available).
We will continue to review the availability of information in our reporting at Group level to meet stakeholder interests on our most important impacts.
Key
F = Full coverage
P = Partial coverage
NM = Not material
NA = Not available
