These are some highlights of recognition we have received from external bodies on our social, economic and environmental performance.

Highlights from 2008

International

Specialist agencies, including socially responsible investment funds, provide a variety of ratings and rankings of our global performance, for example:

  • September 2009: Named food industry category leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Indexes for the 11th year running – the only company to have achieved this DJSI logo

  • Retained SAM Sector Leader and SAM Gold Class Sustainability distinctions from Sustainable Asset Management

  • Included again in the FTSE4Good Index Series and attained a top environmental score of 5, leading to inclusion in the FTSE4Good Environmental Leaders Europe 40 IndexFTSE4Good logo

  • Scored 88% in the latest Carbon Disclosure Project survey (CDP6 in 2008)

  • Included in Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World for the fifth year running, a 2009 list compiled by Corporate Knights and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors

  • Retained our Platinum standard in the UK's Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index 2008 Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index 2008 logo

  • Gained joint first place in VBDO (Association for Investors in Sustainable Enterprises) 2008 rating for sustainable supply chain management, ahead of 34 other companies listed on the Dutch Stock Exchange

  • Runner-up for Best Report in the ACCA UK Awards for Sustainability Reporting 2008, for our Sustainable Development Report 2007

  • Joint winner of the 2008 ACC Award in the Most Innovative CSR Report category, given by the Dutch accountancy organisations VMA and NIVRA

  • Presented with the AED Corporate Leadership Award by the Academy for Eating Disorders in recognition of our responsible marketing campaign in advancing the awareness and treatment of eating disorders

National

At national level, our country-based operations are assessed on their performance in numerous surveys and rankings, for example:

  • Unilever Argentina voted Best Employer for the fourth consecutive year by business magazine Apertura, which also ranked it first as the 'company of dreams' for students. The business also received the Carlos Pellegrini Award for best employer, presented by the National Industrial Association and the Argentine government.

Regional
