Plan ahead
Along with work, grocery shopping is something we cannot avoid. It is one of those necessary chores that can take a big chunk of your time each week. But the good news is that it can be easier and more productive with a little forward planning.
Try to decide on your weekly menu in advance, so that when you do the shopping you know exactly what to buy. Make a list and stick to it.
Eat well
But even when you have a list, you may still be faced with a large range of options. And if you're concerned about choosing healthy food for you and your family, that can make shopping even trickier. How can you make a quick decision about which pasta sauce is the most nutritious?
Food packages do carry nutritional information but labelling is not yet standardised and can be confusing.
Clear choice
Research has shown that shoppers find simple front-of-pack healthy-eating logos simple and quick to understand, especially when under pressure, as many of us are in the supermarket.
For that reason Unilever, along with other food manufacturers, draws attention to healthy products by using the Choices stamp on the front-of-food packaging to help you to make a healthy decision. The stamp, which shows that the product's nutritional profile is in line with internationally accepted dietary advice, makes a healthy choice the easy choice. This is backed up by detailed nutritional information on the back of the pack.
Only products that qualify against nutritional criteria can carry the stamp. These criteria are set out by top scientists in an Independent Scientific Committee.
So when you are making your next supermarket dash, look out for the Choices stamp and take the healthy option.
